Rachel entered the Verde Valley River Day Songwriting competiton, and her song was written to the request specification of the competition- about the Verde River. This song was her personal observations of the Verde Valley river- a subject dear to her heart.  She says, this past few years living in a desert climate has made water source that much more poigniant, although she has always been a keen conservationist by nature.

She received the good news that she was through to the finals, and rushed from a show with Willia Schwab at the Page Springs Winery, in order to perform her song in the Old Town Centre for tue Arts in Old Town Cottonwood. She made it in time, and managed to perform the song while the microphone stand wilted in front of her face! By the time she was singing the chorus, the mic stand ha dropped to hip level. She said it was challenging to say the least!

The competition results were decided by audience votes on paper. Each member of the audience submitted their vote soon after the end of the show. Other participants who played in the finals were Marie Jarreau playing 'Ain't She Purdy' and Michael McReynolds playing 'Verde River Blues'.

William Eaton and the River band played some fabulous music for the finale as the votes were counted.

Marie took 3rd place, Michael took 2nd, and Rachel hadn't realised she'd won as her name was being called!

She says this has been a real treat, to be included and to be recognised by the Verde Valley locals, and is humbled and honoured. She feels this is a new beginning for her, an opportunity to be recognised on a larger scalewith her blessings, for her music to touch many more hearts.

Well done Rachel! A much deserved accolade!
